First check

First appointment

Make your first appointment as soon as possible. You will visit the practice for the first time around 8 weeks. You will then have your first ultrasound. We will determine the due date at that time. During this first appointment, you will also be informed about the various prenatal tests. These include the 13-week ultrasound, the NIPT, and the 20-week ultrasound and blood test.

The first check-up takes about 45 minutes.

What should I bring?

Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by the assistant. She will register you. Please bring the following to your first check-up:

  • The questionnaire (docx). This will also be sent to you by email.
  • Proof of identity
  • Insurance certificate

If you do not have valid identification or are not insured, please inform the assistant immediately when making the appointment!

Follow-up appointments

The second appointment often consists of a repeat ultrasound and an intake interview. This appointment can last up to 60 minutes. For follow-up appointments, you have the choice between Centering Pregnancy or one-on-one check-ups.

Centering Pregnancy is a program that combines medical check-ups and all information regarding pregnancy, childbirth, and the first few months of the baby. In addition, there is time to ask all your questions and share your experiences with women who are due around the same time. The check-ups consist of 9 sessions of 120 minutes each. Centering Pregnancy sessions have been shown to contribute to greater confidence in yourself, your pregnancy and childbirth, and your role as a mother. If you would like to know more about this: click for more information about Centering Pregnancy.

The one-on-one check-ups last 15 minutes. During these check-ups, we will measure your weight and blood pressure, feel the size of the uterus, and try to listen to the baby’s heartbeat with the Doppler.

The check-ups become more frequent as the pregnancy progresses. For example, you come every four weeks at the beginning of the pregnancy and every week at the end of your pregnancy.
