The maternity nurse is the midwife’s assistant during childbirth. She supports the birthing person and her partner. After the birth, the maternity nurse cares for mother and child.
You can decide for yourself during your pregnancy whether you want a lot of care or just a few hours from the maternity care service.
Maternity care is mandatory for the first four days due to the necessary medical check-ups.
You are free to choose the maternity care agency that suits you.
Midwives Rotterdam West works closely with Kraamzorg Group up.
The maternity nurses from Kraamzorg Groep up hold walk-in consultations two days a week at our main location on Heemraadssingel. Here you can obtain all information regarding the postpartum period. You can also register for maternity care at this time.
Ideally, the maternity nurse is your rock during the first 8 days after the birth. She teaches you everything you need to know about caring for the baby, helps you with latching (if you are breastfeeding), or explains how to prepare bottle feeding. She gives you all kinds of tips for when the baby cries at night, for example. What she does around the house depends on the level of care you purchase.
Furthermore, the maternity nurse is the link between you and the midwife. She reports any abnormalities to your midwife during the visits she makes, and calls the midwife if she notices any abnormalities.
Sometimes, due to (summer) busyness, less maternity care may be provided than agreed.
