After the delivery, the midwife visits several times for postpartum check-ups. The maternity nurse cares for the mother and her child during the postpartum period. The midwife is ultimately responsible for both mother and child during the first 10 days after the birth.
During the postpartum visits, we pay attention to the following things:
The mother’s recovery, in this regard we pay attention to:
- amount of blood loss
- the height of the uterus
- any stitches and the removal of these stitches between the 6th and 8th day
- any complaints regarding the breasts
- physical and psychological condition
- the temperature
The baby’s condition, paying specific attention to:
- Is drinking from breast milk/bottle milk going well?
- are there enough wet and soiled diapers
- is the baby’s color good
- the weight
- the temperature
At the final postpartum check-up, we conclude the postpartum period. We will then discuss various matters with you, such as contraception and the follow-up appointment.
You can make an appointment for when the baby is 6 weeks old. We would be very happy if you came for a check-up with the baby.
You can also make an appointment right away for a contraception consultation; we can explain everything about all methods of contraception, either in person or by phone, and arrange everything for you.
