And chances are very high that you are going to feel those movements now! What does that feel like? Some describe it as a kind of rumbling in your intestines, others as butterflies in your stomach, and a third as a popping soap bubble. This intimate feeling will stay with you for the next twenty weeks.

If you are pregnant for the second or a subsequent time, you have probably felt the movements earlier. But even if this is your first pregnancy, you may have felt the baby much earlier. At the moments when you don’t feel anything, he or she is probably sleeping soundly.

Haven’t you felt anything at all around this week? Don’t worry, sometimes it just takes a little longer, so you’ll just have to be patient.

You

The idea that you have to eat for two during pregnancy is a myth. If you simply continue to eat healthily and responsibly, you really don’t need to worry about your child missing out on anything. In principle, you could eat a little more starting from week 20. In the second part of your pregnancy, you can actually use about 100 to 300 extra calories. But that isn’t much, of course. You’ll reach that limit in no time with an extra slice of bread or a few potatoes.

Precisely because you are moving less now, you don’t need as many extra calories. However, you do need to pay more attention to the quality of your food. If you eat healthily, you will automatically get enough vitamins and minerals.

You no longer need to take extra folic acid from your eighth week of pregnancy. However, it is recommended to take 10 mg of vitamin D daily. Alternatively, you can use a multivitamin supplement specifically for pregnant women.

You need approximately this per day:

5 to 7 slices of brown bread

3 to 5 potatoes or 3 to 5 tablespoons of rice or pasta

4 tablespoons of vegetables

2 pieces of fruit

3 glasses of milk or dairy products

100 grams of meat, fish, or chicken or a meat substitute

1 to 2 slices of cold cuts (do not eat too many liver products)

450 ml dairy products and 30 grams (1 1/2 slices) cheese

30 – 35 grams of low-fat margarine, margarine, baking and frying products (5 grams per slice of bread)

1.5 – 2 liters of drink (including milk)

(source: Nutrition Centre)

Week 20 The 20-week ultrasound!
