But if your child were to be born now, he or she would still need to spend some time in an incubator. The temperature regulation system is not yet well developed, so your child would not yet be able to keep themselves warm. Furthermore, your child has not yet built up sufficient immunity and is therefore still very susceptible to infections.

Because it is getting increasingly cramped in your belly, your baby can no longer move around very actively. Playful somersaults are a thing of the past. You will still feel the pokes and kicks, though, and they are sometimes quite powerful. Do you see a ‘bump’ sticking out near your belly? That is likely a little foot or shoulder. This week your baby may take his or her final position, but it is also possible that he or she will turn later on. Once your baby has descended, he or she will no longer change position.

You

Due to your pregnancy, the flow in your blood vessels has changed. You now have more blood; seven liters instead of five. This increase is mainly due to excess fluid. Your blood is now thinner, causing it to flow more easily and quickly. This large amount of blood must be pumped around by your heart. It therefore has to work harder.

Furthermore, your blood vessel walls are weaker. Due to these changes, congestion can occur in your lower body, which in turn can lead to hemorrhoids and/or varicose veins. Try to prevent this by exercising regularly and avoiding sitting or standing in one position for too long.

Just relax: lie on your back on the floor and rest your lower legs on a chair, with your knees forming a ninety-degree angle.
